Viwek Vaidya, ing., M.Eng ( McMaster University), B. Tech ( IIT -Kharagpur)
Viwek is a welding engineer and has worked over 40 years in the welding industry. He has served on many CSA, AWS and ISO code committees. During his career he worked for Dominion Bridge, Canron, Combustion engineering and Air Liquide Canada, while providing expertise in the welding and manufacturing of nuclear reactors, hydro electric gates, boilers, aluminum smelters, pulp and paper machinery and general manufacturing, and more recently, high energy Laser welding and cutting processes. He travelled extensively in China implanting (Canadian) Boiler making technology (Alstom-CE) for fossil fuel power generation through the China Machinery Corporation at Harbin Boiler works, Shanghai Boiler works and Dongfang Boiler works.
Viwek was recognized as an international Senior Expert for Air Liquide SA Group for the invention of the CAP audit program. Competing in nine categories, The CAP audit program won the Grand Prize at the International innovation meet in 1997. He is the inventor of 101.Lean.Welds methodology. This Lean methodology improves quality, productivity and plays an important role towards weld failure prevention. The lean process control methodology was integrated into the Part 6 of the ISO 3834 Welding Quality Standard in the last edition. Viwek was the past chairs of several technical committees Nationally and Internationally: namely, CSA W48 standard; Strategic Steering committee on Welding and Structural Materials; Chair of the Canadian Delegation at International ISO TC44 Technical committee for Welding and Allied processes ( 35 voting countries) and the Welding community within FFC for SME. Viwek has published many technical papers and is a frequent speaker at SME, AWS, CWA, ISQ and educational institutions.
Currently, Viwek provides consulting services to the Welding Community in Canada and shares his knowledge by teaching. Viwek is a voting member of the : CSA W117.2 Safety standard, Vice Chair of the International Canadian advisory committee for ISO TC44 and is a member of the Strategic Steering committee of built environment in Canada.. Viwek is a member of CINDE, Life member at AWS, and an active member of SME Chapter 50. He teaches Joining Processes and Non destructive testing, MECH 6541 a 4 credit course to graduate and post graduate students at Concordia University.
